Serving over 500 children a year, CRH operates the only emergency
shelter for abused children in the Sacramento region.
How we help:
Children’s Receiving Home has a long history of providing quality
emergency shelter for the area’s abused and neglected children.
On Dec. 31, 2019, CRH was licensed by the state Department of
Social Services as a Temporary Shelter Care Facility, a 10-day
emergency shelter model focused on stabilization and
placement. The TSCF is available twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week, 365 days per year for the admission of
children and youth between the ages of 1 to 21 years.
Children are in crisis when they are admitted to this facility,
and our objective is to be as supportive and constructive as
possible during their stay. We also assist with
transitional and aftercare services to promote better placement
outcomes and more enduring reconnection to families and
community.
Besides providing children food, shelter and clothing Children’s
Receiving Home offers a variety of programs that deliver
comprehensive care.
TSCF social workers are assigned to provide coordination of
care for children and youth. Working in close proximity to
clients allows our social workers to identify individual
strengths and needs for each youth. When children and youth
arrive to the TSCF, social workers provide an assessment of
client needs and links to community resources.
Children and youth receive coordination of care for school,
medical appointments and mental-health services and
referrals. Social workers have strong working relationships with
the child’s Child Protective Services social workers. When
children and youth are ready to transition, our social workers
coordinate pre-placement visits with potential foster parents or
residential treatment programs.
Social workers are available for crisis intervention and
participate in a 24-hour on-call system for crisis support as
needed.
The Children’s Receiving Home believes every child should have
uninterrupted access to an educational setting that fits their
needs. Children and youth residing at CRH are transported to
their schools of origin throughout the entire Sacramento region.
For a young person in crisis, good times can be an anchor to
cling to and the foundation to build resiliency from their
otherwise chaotic lives. Activities and recreation are
key way to keep our kids occupied in a constructive and
healthy manner while also strengthening teamwork, communication
and self-esteem. With both staff and community support, we are
able to provide daily activities on- and off-campus for different
age groups.
