Recent Media Coverage

Dear Friends,

Recent media reports have provided some misleading information regarding the Children’s Receiving Home (CRH) and its relationship to Sacramento County’s Centralized Placement Support Unit (CPSU) located on our campus. I would like to take this opportunity to clear up any confusion this may have caused.

CPSU is separate from CRH: The intake center highlighted in the recent reports is an entirely separate entity, which is housed in leased space on the Children’s Receiving Home grounds. CRH has no control over that space or the kids who end up there.

While we are separate, we share the same concerns: We are both dedicated to caring for children in the most desperate of circumstances. Historical under funding for our combined services–made worse by our recent recession–has negatively impacted organizations such as ours and the children we seek to help, both in our area and around the state.

You can help: It indeed takes a village. We believe children should be society’s number-one priority, but we can’t do it alone. CRH, CPS, and all public and non-profit organizations like ours need the help of our community as a whole to meet this need. Please consider becoming a foster parent, contacting lawmakers to call for increased funding for children’s services, or donating to organizations that support children and youth.

As always, thank you for your immense support and generosity toward the Children’s Receiving Home. If you have any questions regarding this issue, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Most sincerely,

David Ballard, LCSW
