Position Summary:

We have several part-time Recreation and Activity Counselor positions available. These shifts are:

  • Thursday-Saturday 3pm-11pm.
  • Friday – Sunday 7am – 3pm and 3pm – 11pm
  • Saturday & Sunday 7am – 3pm and 3pm – 11pm

Under the direction of the Campus Activities Supervisor, the Recreation and Activity Coordinator (RAC) is responsible for preparing and implementing the dorm and agency activity schedules for various programs, age groups and levels of trauma and developmental needs. The RAC will supervise the youth during recreational activities, allowing the youth an opportunity to improve self-esteem and encourage sportsmanship and positive behaviors. Activities will be structured to support Trauma Informed Care using best practice at all times and Evidence Based Practices when possible.  The RAC will attend training to remain up to date on Trauma Informed Care in residential settings.  The RAC is responsible for planning, instructing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the activities for the youth. The RAC will collaborate with the Program Supervisors to prepare dorm schedules that support daily therapeutic activity programs for each age group and maintain planned participation in general aspects of daily life skill schedules that align with youth Personal Rights per Title 22.

Education/Experience:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. 
  • Completion of or enrollment in a recreation and leisure program preferred. 
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) units, Child Development units, and/or related Behavioral Science units from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Six months experience in organizing and providing planned activities required. 
  • Previous experience working with children in a residential setting is preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid California Driver License.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess Basic Water Safety certification.
  • Must pass First Aid certification course before start of employment. Certification can be completed through the Children’s Receiving Home.
  • Must pass CPR (within the first six weeks of employment), Bloodborne Pathogens, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification courses offered through the Children’s Receiving Home within the first three months of employment.
  • Must maintain TCI, CPR, First Aid and BBP Certification throughout employment.
  • Must complete online Mandated Reporter Training Course within first week of employment.
