Support Residential Counselor
Part Time Support Shifts Available

Position Summary:

We have several part-time Support Residential Counselor positions available. These shifts are:

  • Thursday-Saturday 3pm-11pm.
  • Friday – Sunday 7am – 3pm and 3pm – 11pm
  • Saturday & Sunday 7am – 3pm and 3pm – 11pm

We are looking for applicants experienced in residential care that will be able to provide support to various programs. The Residential Counselor is responsible for the daily care and supervision of agency clients and living conditions. The Residential Counselor is responsible for creating a favorable group climate in which the child’s safety, emotional nurturing and healthy development are of primary concern. The Residential Counselor provides a caring, warm environment for the children through setting clear boundaries and encouraging positive behaviors.

The Support Residential Counselor is responsible for helping clients build self-esteem, age appropriate interpersonal skills, positive thinking, problem solving and coping skills. The Residential Counselor is responsible for the hour by hour care, safety, supervision, protection, guidance and discipline of the group as a whole and for each child as an individual. The Residential Counselor is responsible for meeting the health and personal hygiene needs of the children under their care. The Residential Counselor must perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to make decisions in a firm, timely and equitable manner.
  • Must have a positive interest in the care and developmental needs of our clients.
  • Must be able to report to work on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance.
  • Comply with Title 22, Department of Social Services Licensing Regulations.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Employee must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position as the job requires some strenuous activities.
  • Must have the ability to be active for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds, more than 30 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, squat, or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach over head for short periods of time.
  • Must be able to help a child with clothing, zippers, buttons, snaps, and tying shoes, and other tasks such as these.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work with latency age boys and girls as well as adolescents of both genders.
  • Ability to produce written/typed reports and assist with phone reports as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time in an efficient manner.

Education/Experience:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • AA or BA Degree strongly preferred. 
  • Minimum 15 units Behavior Science preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a residential setting is preferred.
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) units, Child Development units, and/or related Behavioral Science units from an accredited college or university is preferred.
