Behavioral Health Specialist – Full Time

Position Summary:

The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) is responsible for creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment.  Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, the BHS is responsible for the daily care and supervision of agency clients and living conditions. The BHS is also responsible for demonstrating leadership and providing support to their assigned team.  The BHS will assist the agency in coaching and modeling reinforcements to Residential Counselors regarding Agency Training Concepts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Model, Coach and Provide reinforcement to Residential Counselors
  • Provide a cohesive team environment to ensure the schedule and individual client plans are followed consistently.
  • Convey information from the Program Supervisor to the team.
  • Role model a solution focused approach to team related problems
  • Mentor newly hired staff in overall program implementation
  • Attend all team meetings and take meeting minutes to ensure all staff are informed
  • Assist the Supervisors on Duty (SOD).

Education / Experience:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • Possession of an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Human Services, Child Development or related field is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in a group home setting or experience with at-risk youth required.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Must have Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification and Mastered TCI — LSI 1 status.
  • Must complete online Mandated Reporter Training Course within first week of employment. 
  • Must have and maintain current TCI, CPR, First Aid and BBP Certification throughout employment
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License, a reliable automobile, and auto insurance.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
