Our volunteer program is a vital part of our mission to provide our residents with a safe, nurturing and positive experience. We have several different Volunteer programs here at CRH. We encourage you to take a look and see which one you might be interested in!
Dormitory Program
What most folks are probably picture when they think of volunteering with us, our dormitory program is a way for volunteers to spend time with our youth in a specific dorm during their free time. Dorm volunteers provide enrichment programs for the youth in small groups with age-appropriate activities such as creative arts, crafts, music, sewing, games etc. Volunteers work under the direction of staff.
Teacher's Aide Program
Volunteer teacher's Aides work under the direction of special education teachers to provide individualized learning experiences for our elementary to high school-aged youth.
Administrative Program
Especially since the recent budget stress, administrative volunteers are crucial to CRH staff, helping with everything from answering phones and light filing to word processing and research projects. Those extra hands mean our staff can maximize the time spent providing vital services to our youth. Occasionally, administrative volunteers also help in the clothing room as needed.
Clothing Room Program
As we have emphasized elsewhere, CRH's clothing room is a vital asset that allows us to give every child who comes to us their own set of clothes and necessities. Our clothing/Donation volunteers make that possible by helping us to process, sort and organize our clothing supplies, most of which come directly from the community.
Recreation Program
Whereas the dormitory program is somewhat less structured, we're building a core of volunteers who would like to come share a sport, craft or activity with interested youth on a regular, usually weekly, basis. If you have a talent or interest you'd like to share, let us know! The following is an idea of what we think our youth would really enjoy, but if you have different ideas, we'd like to hear them!
- Arts & Crafts (we're usually able to provide supplies)
- Sports-basketball, soccer, football, swimming etc.
- Music Lessons (we're usually able to provide supplies)
Mentor Program
The Children's Receiving Home is expanding its services to address the urgent needs of older foster youth, especially those who are in the process of transition from foster care to adulthood. The goal of our mentor program is to establish long-term individual relationships between a foster youth and their community. Potential mentors will be evaluated closely to ensure an appropriate fit and are expected to be able to commit at least 2 years (unlike the standard requirement of 6 months).
The Children's Receiving Home is currently accepting applications from members of the community who are over the age of 21 and can commit to at least 6 months. TB tests and LiveScan fingerprint clearances are required. For more information and an application, please contact Tanya Kravchuk, Volunteer Coordinator, at tkravchuk@crhkids.org or (916) 482-2370 x303.
