Donate A Vehicle

The Children’s Receiving Home is partnered with Volunteers of America (VOA), Greater Sacramento Area, to operate the vehicle donations program. As our agent in selling donated vehicles, VOA reviews all vehicle donation referrals, makes the final judgment on accepting the donation, processes all the necessary paperwork, and arranges for towing.

Vehicles, including cars, trucks, RV’s, travel trailers and boats with trailers, MUST adhere to the following criteria:

  • Vehicle must be complete (tires, engine, transmission, etc.). However they need not be running.
  • The vehicle must have a clear title. Current registration is not necessary
  • We prefer that the vehicle be located within the greater Sacramento area. Vehicles outside the area will be considered on a case by case basis.

The following criteria may cause a vehicle to be declined:

  • Vehicle is located outside the service area
  • Vehicle is in extremely poor condition and/or not marketable

As of January 1, 2005, if you donate a vehicle that is worth more that $500, you will be required to include a receipt from the charity indicating the amount for which your vehicle was sold. Your deduction will be limited to that sale price. VOA will send you a receipt for the sale price of the vehicle. If your vehicle is worth less than $500, you are allowed to deduct the fair market value up to $500, without waiting for a receipt from the actual sale.

To donate your vehicle, simply fill out the Vehicle Donation Form and fax it to Volunteers of America at (800) 306-3641 or (614) 275-3320. If you do not have access to a fax machine, you may e-mail the completed form to khenderson[at]crhkids.org or mail it to:

If you would like more information about our Vehicle Donation Program please contact Kelly Henderson at (916) 349-7530 ext 28 or e-mail khenderson[at]crhkids.org.

For information about a pending or completed vehicle donation please contact VOA at 1-800-407-2600.

By donating your vehicle you will receive a tax deduction, avoid the hassle of selling the vehicle yourself, and, most importantly, you will be making a contribution to the important work being done by the Children’s Receiving Home.

On behalf of all of our children and staff, thank you for considering our agency for your donation!
