About Us:  What we do and who we are
In Brief...
The Children's Receiving Home was established in 1944, through a joint effort of the Junior League of Sacramento and the Sacramento Rotary Club. Following several downtown locations in the early years, CRH relocated in 1965 to our permanent six acre campus at 3555 Auburn Boulevard in Sacramento at the corner of Watt and Auburn.

The Children’s Receiving Home was founded in 1944 through a cooperative effort of the Junior League of Sacramento and the Rotary Club of Sacramento. Previously at two other locations, the Children’s Receiving Home has been located at its current site since 1965, on six acres of land deeded to the agency by the City of Sacramento.

In recent years the Children’s Receiving Home underwent major renovation and addition of cottages and a multipurpose building made possible through the generosity of donors in our area. Today the Receiving Home houses up to 98 children on a beautiful, state of the art facility.
Our Program
As a shelter, the Children's Receiving Home is a refuge, where children stay for an average of 35 to 40 days and can heal from the abuse they have suffered. While their future living arrangements are being explored, children receive:

As a result of these services, children are better prepared for and matched with their next step placement thus increasing their chances for success.

The facility is licensed annually by the State Department of Social Services to provide care for 98 children ages 1 to 17. The Children's Receiving Home is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, for the admission of children. Children are in crisis when they are admitted to this facility, and our objective is to be supportive and as constructive as possible during their stay here.

The program includes supportive counseling on the court process and the problems involved with being removed from home and placed in a group setting, provided by Social Work, Mental Health, and Residential staff. The educational component is provided on grounds by the San Juan Unified School District. Grades 1-12 are served in an individualized program, which meets each child's educational needs as determined through assessment and coordination with the appropriate community school. A positive school experience and continuity of education for the child are program objectives.

The Children's Receiving Home also has a Mental Health Program funded through a contract with Sacramento Mental Health utilizing Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) funding. EPSDT is designed to improve the health of low-income children by financing appropriate and necessary pediatric services.

Medical services are also available for all children residing at the Home. The Children's Receiving Home has a medical clinic on site and provides physicals for children through the Child Health and Disability Prevention Program (CHDP). Other medical services are also provided for the children residing at the home provided by on-site medical staff.
